Barcelona vs Chivas in Miami August 3, 2011

We have just confirmed via Jorge Ramos y Su Banda ESPN Radio that Barcelona will play Chivas in Miami on August 3, 2011.
The rumor had been that Barcelona would meet AC Milan, but it turns out that announcement was premature. No deal was made so instead it will be Mexico's most followed team against European giant FC Barcelona.

Miami FC Fan Robert Scorca in Honduran News

Robert Scorca is a member of the Miami Ultras and has missed maybe one or two Miami FC games since the team started. He was also a devote Miami Fusion fan and was broken hearted when the Barcelona Miami bid for MLS fell apart. But one thing that many might not know about him is his love of the Honduran National team.

Robert was recently interviewed by the Honduran newspaper site Diario DIEZ in an article titled "Robert Scorca, apasionado por la Bicolor". Here is a little I translated:

Robert Scorca is a 53 year old American who has followed the Honduran national team since 2003, his love of Honduras is thanks to the Miami Fusion. “Alex Pineda Chacón, played for the Fusion he is my friend and is a humble person, he keeps in touch with me. Since then I started to identify with Honduras and I am always following what they do and when they come here. I consider myself a Honduran"
Robert says is best friend is "Samuel Caballero, too bad he was not called to the team this time. But I can't just name one player because they all say hello to me when they see me."

Many Honduran Soccer Fans left over 30 comments, most think Robert is a U.S. spy! Here are a few:

Carlos says: "As a Honduran we should learn, many are against the national team, this man from another country follows this team with his heart... Thanks for supporting Honduras..."

Albertini writes: "Ok, I hope you are not a spy!"

Catrachito: "Wow! How I envy him with all those cards of players, right when I was wondering how I could obtain posters of our warriors. I'd love to have a huge poster of our national team with Costly, Pavon, Suazo, Palacios, Guevara, Valladares etc. VERY WELL DONE Mr. Scorca!"

LUIS: "He is a great person I met him at many Honduras games here in Miami. he knows more about the national team then most Hondurans."

Noemi: "For those that say Robert is a spy, don't say things that are not true, you should learn from him and support our national team with your heart. Keep it up Robert!"

Note: Some Honduran fans have even started a campaign to help Robert finance his trip to watch the U.S. vs Honduras match to take place in Chicago on June 6.

Miami FC: The Southern Legion make their presence felt at Lockhart Stadium

The Southern Legion is Miami FC's new fan group!
Formed on the ashes of the failed MLS Miami Barcelona bid, this group of rag tag soccer fans want to make a difference!
On Friday April 24, at 8PM, when Miami FC plays versus the Montreal Impact, The Southern Legion (Legion del Sur) expect to be a force to be reckoned with.
I spoke to Sean Gibb and Luis Rodriguez, founders of the group who say "FIU is our turf, our back yard" and they expect to be out there in force!
Good job guys, we need to make FIU stadium a fort, our home is our battle ground and along with the Ultras we need to make the Impact or any team that visits us fear the very idea of stepping a foot in our home!

Barcelona Miami Not awarded MLS Franchise... Miami needs to save Miami FC

Major League Soccer will not award Miami according to Major League Soccer...

"I want to thank both FC Barcelona and Marcelo Claure for the tremendous effort to bring an MLS expansion team to Miami," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "FC Barcelona is one of the best managed and strategically operated sporting clubs in any sport in the World and I appreciate the opportunity that we have had to work with them and Marcelo Claure over the last few months."

Sad day for Miami Fans. MLS had it in their court but they want mediocre markets and cities willing to pay the $40 Million.
Good luck to the other cities.
I hope Portland gets it!

MLS has the ball in their court, Miami and Montreal would be in if deals are worked out

Greetings Miami Fans! As it is well known at this stage Barca is still negotiating with MLS and the League wants Barcelona in no matter what!
Apparently my source tells me it will be Montreal and Miami entering the league by March 19th and since MLS is trying to make a deal with Montreal, Barca wants the same treatment!
The report on the Bolivian paper El Deber says the truth, it's 50/50 because it all depends on MLS, but the way it's looking MLS really wants Montreal because the rivalry with Toronto would be huge and if anyone saw the Montreal vs Santos Laguna game the other night the Impact can pack the house! The entrance of Montreal secures a larger piece of the Canadian market, there is no doubt this team will be profitable and MLS knows it.
The other team would be Barcelona. Why? Because of the name, the tradition and because all the other teams in MLS want this to happen. Of all the remaining candidate cities Miami makes the most sense.

Barcelona Miami trying to make a deal? Claure in Barcelona, announcement for today was rumoured

Miami Fans woke up this morning hoping to hear good news about the Miami Barcelona bid. Apparently meetings between MLS and Barcelona took place today and a source has indicated a deal was trying to be made. MLS really wants this bid to happen and are doing what they can to not lose it.
The Miami Herald reported that the announcement will not be made today and my friend Brant at the Orlando Sentinel goes on to say if we hear anything it will be bad news rather then good.
As I said my source tells me things have been are running as if this is a done deal for weeks now. Barcelona has even gone as far as contacting former player and coach Xabier Azkargorta to take the reigns of the Miami team, as a coach or Manager.
I'm sure more will develop as the day goes on. More to come...

Barcelona Miami in Danger? Sorry Haters, not true according to inside source...

According to some of my fellow Bloggers Barcaloco and one of my favorites MLSenespañol . The Miami Franchise is in danger. MLS en Español's source is SportsES who has an interview with the General Director of the club Mr Olive who states that due to these financial times there is a chance the project will not go forward.

Well, it was my understanding that Brightstar owner Marcelo Claure was the main investor who is going to fork out the $40 million big ones and not Barcelona.

So I did a little digging, a phone call and an anonymous source close to Mr. Brightstar confirmed that though Mr. Olive speaks for FC Barcelona he is not the one who has the last word. Everything is still on course folks, Marcelo Claure is the one putting the loot. Barcelona is putting the know how and years of experience and they are what makes the bid strong, but it is no secret that there is internal posturing within Barcelona, especially since La Porta's term ends in 2010. Rest assured my source tells me La Porta and Claure are the main characters in this drama and as far as Marcelo Claure is concerned he is not backing out.

The Other Barcelona... and it's not in the United States or Spain!

Now that it looks like Barcelona FC along with Brightstar's Marcelo Claure will be awarded an MLS team here in Miami, the word "Barcelona" is no longer just a city in Spain.

But before there was talk of Barcelona in MLS there was another team created some 25 years after the original team was established.

On May 1, 1925 Eutimio Pérez, a Catalan immigrant from Barcelona, Spain founded Barcelona Sporting Club in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Contrary to popular belief Eutimio named the team after the city and not the team. It was years later that the crest which is almost a carbon copy of the one used by Barcelona FC, was adopted.

Barcelona SC is arguably the most successful team in Ecuadorean Soccer history having won the national tournament a record 13 times (Hence the stars around the crest), a distinction it shares with Nacional of Quito. Barcelona has also disputed the final of the Copa Libertadores twice but was unsuccessful each time.

Barcelona S.C is by far the most popular team in Ecuador and in 1987 they inaugurated "El Monumental"stadium playing versus Barcelona FC! This game ended with the home team winning 1-0. Barcelona SC invited many South American football celebrities, such as Pele, to the inauguration. Pelé was so astonished, he compared the stadium to the famous Maracana in Rio de Janeiro. The Estadio Monumental has a capacity of 89,930 spectators, making it at that time the second largest stadium in South America in terms of capacity. Today it remains the largest stadium in the South American West Coast.

It looks like Miami will have MLS in 2010!

As I wrote on the Orlando Sentinel's; the Other Football . According to Elmundodeportivo.es, Barcelona has a pre-contract in their possession awarding them the Miami Franchise! The contract was sent from the U.S. and is now being revised by their legal department. It states that by February 15 an official announcement will be made and the contract states the team will begin in 2010. El mundo deportivo states their source is 'Els millors anys de la nostra vida' of Catalunya Radio.

The article goes on to say that the project was made with Bolivian Marcelo Claure, etc, etc. things we already know.
So it seems we have one of the MLS expansion teams! I'm sure we will hear more on this in the days to come.

I wonder who will be the other team that will enter the league in 2011?

Barcelona Presidente Joan Laporta wants to Retire and then run MLS team in Miami!

Hola Miami and the worlds! Burrito wake up today and drink cafecito con huevos rancheros and read ASS.com report today about Barcelona Presidente Joan Laporta i Estruch (Si, it's true, thats his name! His picture to the derecha). He is the vato who brings MLS futbol to Miami again so Burrito love him very much and Boliviano Marcelo Claure too! One day Burrito invite these home boys to some quesadillas con chile!
So el Senor Laporta have only one years left on his presidency with Barcelona. The vato is gonna be without a good chamba (work) so once his time is up he says he will come to Miami and be incharge of the Miami team himself!!! Mister Laporta has made a powerful team in Barcelona and he bring that winning experience and feeling to Miami. Burrito very excited about Barcelona Miami!

So Burrito want to say a few things... If Barcelona Miami is not going to happen then why would Barcelona make agreement with MLS and why would they tour the USA? Why would Barcelona sign agreement with FIU to use stadium? Burrito think MLS has already made agreement with Barcelona to award them the pinche Miami team but MLS being sneeky to not hurt other cities feelings. Every time a report comes out Barcelona acts like this is a done deal so Burrito think they know this thing is en la bolsa! (In the bag!) Ahuevo!

Miami Soccer Fans will have to keep waiting...

It looks like Miami will have to wait a little longer until MLS awards this city a team. According to Eufootbalbiz . MLS Senior Vice-President Dan Courtemance confirmed that plans are moving ahead as expected in Philadelphia, bringing the reality of a 16th franchise even closer. The MLS will expand by an additional two teams for the 2011 season. The cities waiting, Vancouver, Ottawa, Miami, St. Louis and Portland, will need to wait until mid March.

Why the delay? Unexpected setbacks. Turns out MLS Commissioner Don Garber has visited all bidding cities except Ottawa and plans to complete the trip by the end of January.

Already two cities have withdrawn. Originally strong candidate Montreal retracted its bid last November and recenlty it was Atlanta that bit the dust.

The one thing that we can rest assured about is that everyone is sure MLS will award one of the teams to Miami. Barcelona Miami is ready to start in 2010 and I can't wait!

The Greatest Miami Fusion fan of all time... to become Barca Miami / Miami FCB fan!

Throughout Sports history there are fans who have become an insignia or symbol of a team. The Lakers have Jack Nicholson, The Knicks have Spike Lee... The Miami Fusion had Burrito.

Very little is know about this mysterious and solitary soul. According to Burrito he was Born Mardoqueo de la Torre y Chancleta one cold night on the year of our lord July 4, 1980 in the city of Toluca, Mexico. A Toluca Fan since birth he came to this country by ways unknown and now resides in Homestead, Florida. I was able to get a hold of him by chance, while making a reservation at a restaurant in Homestead called El Toro. He worked there, we talked about Futbol and here is what happened: (I tried my best to capture Burritos accent. My nickname is Chichi btw...read on...)

Chichi (Uncle Ed): Just like many of us, your heart must have been broken when our team The Miami Fusion was taken from us.
Burrito: Pinches Putos nos chingaron! All Burrito have was that team ese. If it wasn't for the Mexican League and my mami back in Mexico I would have died vato.
C: Why the name Burrito?
B: Why the name Chichi ese?
C: ChiChi is a nickname.
B: In Mexico they call boobies chichis vato, you should change the name. Burrito call himself Burrito after favorite food and because when Burrito play Futbol people say Burrito looked like Ariel "Burrito" Ortega from Argentina.
C: Is it true you used to take the bus to Lockhart Stadium from Homestead? That's got to be like 50 miles at least.
B: Si, it was very far but when you love Futbol like Burrito love Futbol then you no think of it. Burrito take a walkman and some music by Vicente Fernandez and time go by fast. But now Burrito Have his own car.
C: Have you tried doing something about your accent and writing skills?
B: No
C: You should
B: .....(Silence)
C: Did I offend you?
B: Que? Burrito drop tortilla...
C: Oh... never mind.

Miami FCB / Barca Miami. Why are there so many haters? Does Miami deserve a team?

No matter where I go it seems every blog, news article or discussion board has a large group of haters just waiting to comment with something negative about a Major League Soccer team being awarded to Miami... and I wonder why? Did someone from Miami treat them bad? Maybe their vacation in Miami was that terrible? Perhaps it was an ex-girlfriend from Miami? Whatever the case I'm here to Finally confront these mere pathetic mortals with a little reality!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Folks, I'm sorry you live in Cold places, I'm sorry our women are beautiful, I'm sorry that one of the two new teams that will be part of Major League Soccer will be a team out of Miami. Sucks to be you but thats just the way the cookie crumbles!

Sure, go ahead and comment about how the last team in Miami failed (It was actually in Ft Lauderdale), go ahead and cry about how the fans didn't show up (In the last year of the Miami Fusion; attendance went up almost 50%), complain about the weather (I got nothing on that except it doesn't snow here and thats still great!). No Stadium to play in? FIU's brand new stadium is there, regulation Fifa size and everything! Why all the complaining? Jealous people my friends, because when it gets down to it.... Where do most people want to go? Let me see some hands...who wants to go to Canada? anyone for St Louis? Portland? Ok, ok, Miami anyone?

So why will it be different this time? Deep pockets! Miami Fusions last owner didn't have them and wasn't willing to stick it out so it wasn't the fans that failed the team, the fans were there. If the MLS could take it back I'm sure they would have kept Miami because of Location, location, location. Thats why they always wanted to come back.

The difference today is that Barcelona of Spain is one of the investors. The diffrence today is that Soccer in this town is being played more then ever! In every park, empty lot, back yard, kids, adults, animals, you name it! They are all playing the game. We have a large support group in the Miami Ultras Fan Club, (Go and join!) We have Soccer academys from Homestead to the Palm Beaches! Things are better organized.

When the news comes in January; I'll be very surprised if Miami doesn't get a team. Shocked is the word. At the end of the day Miami is where its going to be. Because if you ask any player in the world, where would you want to play if given a choice in the USA? It would be Miami.
